1 Samuel 1:19-28 “Gratitude, Worship & Faith”

After pouring her heart out to God, God favored Hannah with a son [Samuel]. When Elkanah went to offer the yearly sacrifice and keep his vow, Hannah did not go: “…’I will not go up until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD and stay there forever.’” (22b). After Samuel was weaned [about 3], she took Samuel with a worship offering to Shiloh to dedicate him to the LORD for the rest of his life. How was she able to release Samuel at such a young age to the care of a man like Eli [corrupt leader] who was a total failure in raising his own sons? She told Eli this boy is the fruit of her prayers, “‘So I have dedicated him to the LORD; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the LORD.’ And he worshiped the LORD there.” (28). In the context of deep gratitude to God and great confidence in the LORD [not] , she moved into a faith giving Samuel into God’s hands and not Eli’s. When we have the gratitude expressed in costly worship, faith rises above earthly fears seeing God as sovereign over our families.
