“Then Hannah prayed and said, ‘My heart exults in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your Salvation.’” (1) Hannah’s prayer [praise] is unusual when seen in context. God had answered her prayer, so she kept her word committing Samuel to full time service to God in His house at a vulnerable young age. She was not releasing her child in fear because of Eli or his family’s corrupt influence. She released him in faith to God’s sovereign care and control. Her prayer is saturated with praise of Who God is and His sovereignty over all life, including injustices. Her prayer of dedication at such a time expresses insights into, and worship of, a faithful God. When our prayers focus on Who God is, our faith will not waver even in the context of the dangerous influences of a corrupt people. The tone and focus of our prayers reflects who we believe is truly in control!
