1 Samuel 9:1-14 “Divine Appointments”

Israel demanded a king like other nations. God gives them their choice. At first their choice appeared to be beneficial. Saul came from good stock. His father, Kish, was a man of wealth, influence and “a mighty man of valor.” Saul was a choice man, very handsome and very tall. He stood out as a likely candidate. He honored his dad (authority) looking for his lost donkeys but was wearied by a lengthy failed attempt to find them. However, we receive a hint that Saul did not have a strong relationship with God or those who served Him. It was not Saul, but his servant who urged him to turn to Samuel, the man of God, a prophet for insight in their search. As they approached the city, Samuel meets them going to a place of worship. The journey beginning with a loss and continuing in a lack of success, turned out to be a Divine appointment with the prophet Samuel that would drastically alter Saul’s life. If we do not turn to God in our disappointments and failures, we may miss Divine appointments.
