Luke 17:5-10
The apostles asked Jesus to “…’Increase our faith!” (5b). They saw faith as the primary key to greater
works of power, but Jesus response indicates this request was out of line and not the issue. He
illustrates this in the story of the slave who after working in the fields comes home, but not demanding
to be served. First he must prepare something for his master and serve him and only then, will he set
down to eat and drink. He is not rewarded by doing only what is commanded. “So you too, when you do
all the things which are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which
we ought to have done.’” (10). The key to increased expressions of power is not asking for more faith,
but obeying God and maintaining humility and thankfulness for all He has done for us!
