Luke 10:17-24
The seventy Jesus sent returned in joy because even demons were subject to them. Jesus’ response
reveals the power they exercised resulted in Satan’s loss of power. However, He reminds them this
authority came from Him and lacked nothing to enable their mission. “Nevertheless do not rejoice in
this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” (20) Our
joy should not be rooted in positions of power, even over demons, but in our status in heaven [our
salvation]. Jesus praised God in the Spirit because they did not acquire this by wisdom, intelligence or
education. It had come from being with Jesus. In fact, Jesus said, “..You have hidden these things from
the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants….” (21b). The kingdom realities we walk out
are not earned or achieved, but revealed and received in the presence of Jesus.
