Luke 21:1-4
Jesus sat where He could observe people putting gifts into the treasury. While watching the rich give,
He said nothing. But when a poor widow gave two coins [1/64 of days wages], it got His attention. In
Jesus’ eyes, she gave more than all the rich combined, “…but she out of poverty put in all that she had
to live on.’” (4b) To Jesus, what is important is not the value of the gift, but what it costs us to give. We
often applaud those who give great sums of money or expensive gifts, but to Jesus this is not as
important as what it costs us to give. Remember, Jesus is still watching our giving!
