Luke 14:25-35
While crowds grew, Jesus turned and spoke, “…’If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own
father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life, he CANNOT be
My disciple.’” (26). He illustrates this using a construction project. There is public folly when failing to
finish a project because we don't first count the cost. Failure to count the cost in war, results in great
loss. He exhorts us: “So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own
possessions.” (33) All who fail to count the cost are useless! If we first count the cost in all aspects of
our lives or we will be humiliated and become useless to both God and men.
