Luke 13:31-35
The Pharisees tried to get Jesus to leave town warning Him of Herod's threat to kill Him. He did not
receive this as a warning, but as a distraction. He would persist in supernatural ministry and no threat
could derail Him. Though Jesus did not fear threats of death, He was deeply grieved over the
consequences of the rejection of the Jews. “…How often I wanted to gather your children together, just
as a hen gathers her brood under her wings and you would not have it! Behold, your house is left to you
desolate;…” (34b & c). The risk of desolation does not come from persecution or political opposition,
but through rejection of Jesus and His Word. Let us not be derailed by threats, but be attentive to Christ
and His Word so our house will be preserved.
