Luke 9:37-43a
When Jesus returned from His transfiguration, He was met by a large crowd. A man emerged begging
Him to heal his only son who was being seized by a spirit, throwing him into convulsions, and mauling
him. This man had begged His disciples but they were not able to heal him. Jesus first rebuked the
disciples, “…’You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with
you? Bring your son here.’” Then Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and gave him to his
father. Though Jesus was upset with His disciples, He did not allow it to interfere with His compassion
for this man. “And they were all amazed at the greatness of God…” (43a) We must not allow
disappointment with others lack of spiritual progress derail our compassion for others so people can
see God’s greatness and glorify Him.
