Luke 21:7-19
“And He said, ’See to it that you are not misled; for many will come in My Name,…” (8a) Jesus’ first
concern is we not wander by the influence of false ‘Christian’ leaders: “…Do not go after them.” (8d).
He warns us of wars, disturbances, earthquakes, various plagues, famines and terrors and signs from
heaven. Yet He says, “…do not be terrified;…” (9b). He speaks of persecution, imprisonment and
betrayal from those closet to us because of Him. He assures us of His purpose: “It will lead to an
opportunity for your testimony.” (13) Jesus promises to give us words and wisdom our opponents can’t
resist or refute. He exhorts us, “By your endurance you will gain your lives.” (19) Let me summarize:
Do not be misled or go after false Christian leaders
Do not be terrified or fear troubling times
Do not be shocked by opposition, persecution, or hatred
Do not prepare to defend yourself
Do look to God for words and wisdom
Do be prepared for betrayal
Do endure till the end and gain your life.
