After Mordecai, Esther and the Susa Jews fasted for three days, Esther made her approach to the king. “When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the courtyard, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king extended to Esther the golden scepter which was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the top 0f the scepter.” (2) Esther was not presumptuous regarding her advancement to the position of Queen. Her cautious approach reflects humility and acknowledgment of her placement by Divine providence and not for selfish gain. Her view of authority and respect gave her the insight not to immediately ask for the salvation herself and Mordecai, but set up another banquet for the King and Haman to set the stage for the greater need [salvation of the nation of Jews]. Her response would set up providential circumstances which would turn pending tragedy into an amazing triumph. May God give us the grace to walk in humility understanding the impact of our decisions ripple down to others. Wisdom always looks beyond self to the impact on others.
