Luke 22:47-53
Jesus exhorted His disciples to pray so so as not to fall prey to temptation when a crowd came led by
Judas. Judas kissed Jesus and He said to him, “…’are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
(48b). His betrayal came in a deceitful expression of affection. Immediately, His disciples rose with
anger asking, “…’Lord, shall we strike with the sword?’” (49b). Without waiting for HIs response, one
cut off the ear of the high priest. “But Jesus answered and said, ‘Stop! No more of this.’ And touched
his ear and healed him.” (51) Because Jesus prayed, He was able to stand without falling into a fleshly
ill tempered response. Though His arrest defied logic, Jesus was not confused but declared, “…but this
hour and the power of darkness are yours.” (53b). Jesus was not derailed by this time of logic defying
darkness, knowing it was temporary [hour] and God’s will. Like Jesus, we can walk through times of
darkness that defy logic leaning on our Father, but only when we have wrestled with Him in prayer!
