Luke 11:5-13
Jesus tells a story of a man who goes to a friend at midnight because he lacks bread for an unexpected
visitor. Though he would not meet his need because of his friendship, he would do so in the context of
his shameless persistence. In contrast to this friend, our Father willingly and joyfully responds to all our
needs: “For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be
opened.” (10). Everyone? Yes, if we know how to give good gifts to our children being imperfect,
“…how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.” (13b). I am so
grateful to the generosity of our Father in Heaven Who gives us the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit!
Prayer is a wonderful God given vehicle to meet every need when we humbly admit our lack and, in
faith, ask our loving heavenly Father who has an abundant supply for all we need.

Luke 11:14-23 “No Middle Ground”
When Jesus cast out a demon from a mute man, He amazed the crowds. Yet, some skeptics accused
Him of doing so by the devil's power while others asked for another miraculous sign. Today, when God
works miracles among us, some attempt to explain them away while others want a different kind of a
sign. Jesus’ response revealed the lack of logic of their responses. This is another example of how
emotional attachment to a position blinds us from reality and reflects rejection of God’s rule. Then
Jesus declares, “But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon
you.” (20) This is the bottom line. Rejection of Jesus’ miracles reflects a rejection of God’s rule. We
either participate with Him, or we stand against Him, but there is no middle ground (23).
