Luke 12:1-12
In the context of a chaotic crowd, “…He began saying to His disciples FIRST of all, ‘Beware of the
leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.’” (1b). Hypocrisy focuses on how we look to others
(outside), but covers our true condition (inside). It is concerned with what others think, but we need to
know God eventually exposes it all. What is the solution to this fear of men? It is the fear of God! “But I
will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes,. I
tell you, fear Him!” (5) At this Jesus quickly reminds us of the greatness of God’s power and the depth
of His love. Therefore, we can be bold in our testimony without fearing men. We need not fear powerful
persecutions or what to say when attacked. Why? “…for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour
what you ought to say.” (12) When we fear God, we have no other fears but rest wholly in His great
love.
