Luke16:16-18
Jesus made a point that the law and the prophets (old testament) was declared until John the Baptist,
but now the focus is on declaring the good news of God‘s kingdom (God’s rule). However, this does not
negate the truth of the Old Testament. In fact, Jesus said: “But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass
away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.” (17). The proclamation of God’s kingdom is good
news because it goes beyond external conformity to what is right and establishes God’s rule over our
entire being. The good news of God’s kingdom in Christ Jesus enables us to fulfill the law but is not a
license to violate the law. His final statement gives us an example in the issue of divorce. Unjustified
divorce is still adultery. The good news is Jesus came to establish God’s law by establishing Jesus as
king in our hearts. May God‘s grace help us not to disregard his word by insulting Grace.
