Luke 8:16-18
Jesus said lamps are for light and it would be crazy to hide them. Lamps expose things hidden in
darkness: “So take care how you listen, for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does
not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.” (18). Reckless hearing leads to
reckless living leading to a devastating ending. Not being attentive to what God says reflects a
devaluing of His word and, hence, His person. God’s word provides light for living: “Your word is a lamp
to my feet And a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105). Jesus’ miracles were important to people’s obvious
needs, but His teaching ministered to the hidden and more significant needs. Spiritual experiences are
critically important and valuable, but without the ministry of the word, their significance is lost. How we
hear will determine how we live!
