Luke 22:14-23
As Jesus and the apostles sat at the table, He said, “…’I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover
with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of
God.’” (15). The prophetic symbolism of the Passover was about to be fulfilled in the suffering and
death of Jesus. He, however, established a new celebration we call communion, to keep us mindful of
what Jesus did for us. He said, “…the hand of the one betraying Me is with Mine on the table.” (21).
This transition of celebration takes us from the old covenant of the law to the new covenant of grace.
Let us always be mindful of its purpose and the price tag associated with it: “…do this in remembrance
of Me.” (19b).
