Luke 8:1-3
“Soon afterwards, He began going around from one city and village to another, proclaiming and
preaching the kingdom of God.” (1) Jesus had just defended a woman with a very bad reputation
against the thinking of a very devout man. He praised her expressions of love and thanksgiving, while
exposing the lack of such in Simon. This confused some, but Jesus persisted in ministry surrounded
with a team of twelve men and of women who had been “…healed of evil spirits and sicknesses:…”
(2a) and “…many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means.” (3b). Jesus’
ministry was not supported by wealthy business men or fundraisers, but by the gratitude of those whom
He had ministered to. If we are touched by Jesus’ power, we will be generous to the mission of
proclaiming His Kingdom.
