Jesus did not go to Mary in her house of mourning, but sent Martha to let her know He was there and was asking for her. Sometimes people are so trapped in our sorrow and grief that Jesus sends us to them inviting them to leave their place of grief and come to Him. Though Mary expressed her disappointment in Jesus failure to come when they called, she did so with humility and deep respect falling at His feet. Seeing the pain she was in, along with those comforting her, “…He was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled, and said, ‘Where have you laid him?’” (33b-34a). We need to know Jesus is moved by our grief, so much so that: “Jesus wept.” (35). Jesus asked them to move the stone (a step of faith) and looked up to His Father in prayer. Then He commanded: “…’Lazarus, come forth.’” (43b). Are we willing to leave our place of pain, express our disappointment to Jesus, and obey Him so we can experience a better day? A day in the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit!
