When Jesus came into this world, we read that He was “…full of grace and truth.” (14c). John the Baptist said, “…’He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’ For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.” (15b-16). The law of Moses helped define righteousness, but the coming of Christ enable us to realize it. Without God’s grace, our perceptions of God, people and truth are flawed. If we fail to understand this, we will not turn fully and only to God for essential grace. Both our understanding of truth, and our ability to walk in it, are entirely dependent upon the enablement of a God Who is favorable toward us. Humble reliance on Jesus is a prerequisite to both understanding and walking in truth. This eradicates all pride or self-righteous judgement.
