“But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him.” (37) How did Jesus deal with this kind of rejection? Very simply, He saw their rejection in the light of God’s Word from Isaiah the prophet (note 38-40). Yet many rulers did believe in Him but were unwilling to confess Him publicly for fear of being put out of the synagogue [church]. We are given a simple explanation, but it goes to the core of their reasoning: “…for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.” (43). We must ask ourselves this question: Are we more concerned about the approval of men or of God? The answer to this question greatly impacts our emotions, words, and actions. In fact, it determines our effectiveness in serving in God’s kingdom!
