Though Jesus had clarity on His Father’s will, knew who He was and where He was going, and saw it as fulfilling Scripture, it did not lessen His pain of what was about to happen. “When Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me.” (21) The disciples were curious as to who it was, so Peter gestured to John to ask Him for they had no clue. The grip of Satan strengthened around Judas as Jesus indicated who it was by dipping bread and giving it to him. “After the morsel, Satan then entered into him…” (27a) The disciples remained in a fog not understanding what Jesus had said. Judas was not in sync with God’s purpose but had his own agenda so he drifted into becoming Satan’s tool, left Jesus’ presence, and went into the night. Let us release our own agendas lest we also drift into walking in darkness. When we leave Jesus’ presence we walk into the night.
