“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” (12) Jesus does not say they cannot understand the truth, but they could not “bear,” or handle it before the Spirit comes. Consequently, it could not yet be applied to life. However, when filled with the Spirit, He guides us into all truth. Second, “…He discloses to us what is to come.” (13c). We are, in this way, equipped for the future regardless of how it unfolds. Third, “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.” (14). The purpose of the Holy Spirit is not to “tickle our fancy,” but to teach us the truth so we can glorify Christ in our living. We must embrace the reality that without the Spirit, we cannot walk in truth, confidently face the future, or therefore, properly glorify Christ. Let us humbly seek the fulness of the Holy Spirit!
