Jesus spoke, “…so that they may have My joy made full in themselves.” (13b). The condition for this joy is reception and application of His word. The same word that brings us joy, also brings us hatred from the world “…because they are of the world, even as I am not of the world.” (14b). Jesus asks God not to remove us from the world, but to keep us from the evil one. Our separation from this world for God’s special use is the work of truth. “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” (17) Our separation from this world accomplishes three goals. First, it brings us into the joy of the Lord. Second, it allows us to walk in unity and harmony with the Father and His Son. Third, this joy and unity with God form a powerful testimony to this world
“…so that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (21c). The joy of Christ and separation from this world to unite us with God, are keys to a powerful testimony of Christ.
