The fears of the Jews and Pilate contributed to the crucifixion of Jesus among two thieves. Yet the inscription on the cross said, “…’JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.’” (19b). The chief priests pleaded with Pilate to change it to: “…He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’” (21c). “Pilate answered, ‘What I have written I have written.’” (22) The soldiers who crucified Him divided up His clothes and cast lots for His tunic: “…this was to fulfill the Scripture:…” (24b). What looked like great injustice in reality was a fulfillment of God’s plan as revealed in Scripture. We often struggle with injustice reflecting our ignorance of God’s plan, God’s Word, and God’s sovereign power over history. May God give us the wisdom to look beyond “our injustices” to see what He is doing!
