Two Jewish leaders gave Jesus a costly and honorable burial. Both were members of the Sanhedrin and were secret followers of Jesus. However, at the death of Christ, they went public with their faith by burying Him at great personal risk and expense. Why, after His death, would they go public at the expense of their places of power, privilege and wealth? Could it be the way Jesus died and its clear fulfillment of Scripture? Even the soldier guarding Jesus, at His death, said: “…’Truly this was the Son of God!’” (Mt. 27:54). When we understand what Jesus did for us in His death, we will not withhold public expressions of worship involving great personal expense or at the cost of ridicule, loss of position, power or wealth.
