From verse 24 we learn the ‘disciple whom Jesus loved’ is the author of this gospel. The
warmth and intimacy revealed in it come through crystal clear. The clarity of his testimony is accurate not only because he was an eyewitness and disciple, but one with the conviction of Jesus’ great love for him. He also states there was vastly more to the story than he was able to record in detail and could not be contained in a world of books. In other words, his writings are accurate but far from exhaustive. We are humbled and inspired by John’s testimony and look forward to a lifetime of learning that will continue into eternity. Let us not be distracted, but focus on what is truly important for both this life and the next! Let us maintain an eternal perspective for a healthy lifestyle in the present and hope for the future. By His great love for us we can look beyond present contradictions by maintaining an eternal perspective.
