When the Pharisees heard of Jesus’ growing popularity, He left for Galilee. As they went through Samaria, Jesus rested by Jacob’s well while His disciples went to buy food. “There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, ‘Give Me a drink.’” (7) She was surprised for Jews despised and looked down on Samaritans. Then Jesus answered, “…’If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, “Give Me a drink,” you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.’” (10b). She challenged Jesus saying He had nothing to draw with and He had asserted Himself as greater than Jacob. Then Jesus shifted focus from the natural realm to the spiritual offering an inexhaustible supply of living water and eternal life. Like Jesus, though wearied by our journey, we must reach out to those who are suspicious of us due to faulty presuppositions, because we have living water to offer them!
