“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.” (25) Jesus tells us something many religious people wrestle to understand or embrace. Until we respond to His voice, we are dead in our sinful state. No pursuits, activities or careers will truly satisfy or bring us life. Reasoning does not bring life, but listening to Jesus does! Jesus speaks of a time coming when even those in the tombs will hear His voice: “…and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to as resurrection of judgment.” (29). Jesus says that good deeds only flow from those who hear His voice and experience the first resurrection. Without the first resurrection, the second resurrection results in judgment. We must listen to Jesus in order to have eternal life.
