A large crowd gathered to Him because of Jesus’ healing ministry. “Then Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat down with His disciples.” (3) Even in the press of crowds, Jesus pulled aside to teach His disciples. Then, seeing the crowd coming, He asked Philip, “…’Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?’ This He was saying to test him,…” (5-6a). This was not about the crowd, but a teaching moment for His disciples. He took what was insufficient, blessed it, and began giving it to the crowd. In giving it out, it became an abundance. Jesus directed His disciples to: “…’Gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing will be lost.’” (12b). Jesus is concerned with our needs, but He is more concerned with teaching us spiritual truths and principles!
