Jews grumbled when Jesus claimed to be the bread of heaven. “They were saying, ‘Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, “I have come down out of heaven’?’” (42) Jesus further said, “This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.” (50) This drove the Jews crazy thinking it ridiculous that Jesus would claim they needed to eat His flesh and drink His blood. What they thought they knew [from the fleshly realm], prevented them from knowing who Jesus was and the benefit of life He was bringing to them. So they moved from grumbling to arguing. Let us be careful that what we think we know does not impede what we need to know. Otherwise we can not enjoy the blessing of life in Christ.
