When Jesus pointed to the validity of His ministry, He declares acceptance of His word hinges on willingness to do God’s will (17). Knowing His dissenters claimed to follow Moses Law, He appeals to this law exposing their faulty reasoning. A strong passion for their position on the Sabbath caused them to have a surface view of Scripture benefiting their places of power and privilege. However, it clouded their perceptions so they could not see truth without distortion. We need to look beyond fleshly perceptions so we do not use the Bible to support our point of view. We must seek God for the Holy Spirit in humility so we are truly open to what God’s Word says. We must do so being willing to embrace the truth though it challenges our position(s). Only through a posture of humility and genuine honesty can the Holy Spirit guide us into all truth so as to secure righteous judgment.
