The fear of Israel united many kings in different areas and emphasis. It is interesting how those who are enemies with each other, will unite to oppose Christianity. We should not be surprised or concerned about this: “Then the LORD said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow at this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel;…” (6ab). Sometimes great victories follow rising opposition. Joshua captured all their cities, killed their kings, and destroyed them completely. “So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses,…” (23a). The great success Joshua enjoyed is directly linked to His reliance on God and obedience to His commands through His servants. Success is not as much linked to our abilities as it is to our compliance with and obedience to God’s word!
