Joshua 1:7-18 “Get Ready!”

Joshua instructs officers to go among Israel commanding them, “…’Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you are to cross this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess it.’” (11b). Before entrance into God’s promises, we need to make preparation for the journey and to take possession of them. Just one verse of commands for those going in, but to those content with land gained during the journey, Joshua issues a longer and stronger word. Their families could settle in the land God gave, but they had to commit to fight for their brothers, “…until the LORD gives your brothers rest, as He gives you,……..Then you shall return to your own land,…” (15a, c). Some are content with territory gained in our journey to God’s promises, but they have no right to settle until their brothers come into the fulness of their inheritance. There was great concern that settling just short of the promise land would discourage others from fully entering it. Let us properly prepare for our inheritance in God’s kingdom.
