Joshua assembled the leaders of Israel before God and spoke to all the people. He pointed out where they had come from – from far away where they worshiped other gods. He spoke of the faithfulness of God to bring them to where they are – the promised land worshiping God. Now they must decide who they will serve: “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you. Then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…” (15a). Joshua warned of the consequences of turning to other gods and said, “…But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (15c). Today, as we face a deteriorating culture, we must remember where we come from, how we got here, and make an informed choice as to whom we will serve. We cannot influence others, even our own family, unless we first say, “…But as for me…”! We can not command others to do what we have not first demanded of ourselves to do!
