At the death of Joshua, we read this tribute to him: “Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who survived Joshua, and had known all the deeds of the LORD which He had done for Israel.” (31) Not only did Joshua die in the place of promise, but his influence continued with those who served under him, impacting the entire nation. Here is another important factor to their impact on Israel – they had all known the works of God. While we admire Joshua and the legacy he left, it would not have been complete without his knowing and remembering God’s works. We need divine demonstrations and healthy leaders to serve the Lord. Worship must always include reminders of “…all the deeds of the LORD which He had done for…” (31c) us! Their ongoing celebrations of what God had done for them were critical to their legacy!
