As Israel prepared for entrance into Canaan [Promise Land], God gave commands for the people critical to their success. First, they would only begin when the ark of the covenant of the LORD was carried by the priests: “…then you shall set out from your place and go after it.” (3b). They were to keep about a half mile distance from it. Why? “…Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for YOU HAVE NOT PASSED THIS WAY BEFORE.” (4b). Many rely on intellect, talents or other resources to move into God’s promises. Yet, we must be attentive to God’s word and follow God’s presence! He also commanded them to “…Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.” (5b). Let us be consecrated to God’s ways for God’s wonders! We must not be led by any other!
