“Now it came about when all the kings of the Amorites…….., heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the sons of Israel until they had crossed, that their hearts melted,…” (1a, c) This vulnerable time would seem like a good time to go to battle against them. Yet, before going battle, all who were born in the wilderness would need to be circumcised. Not only did this symbolize the cutting away [relying] of the flesh, but necessitated a time for healing. Also, their was a re-establishing of the Passover worship celebration preparing for the transition of living in the promised land. To circumcise our hearts, God utilizes painful situations to purge us from depending on our flesh. Consequently, we also need times of healing and worship before engaging in battle to prepare us for the transition essential to living in God’s promises!
