Luke 6:37-45
Our attitude and actions toward others reflects what fills our hearts positioning us for mercy or
judgment. It is sad how perceptive we are of others flaws, yet can be so blind to our own. Jesus said,
“Why do you look at the speck that is in your brothers eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own
eye?” (41). Our sinful nature likes to justify itself by pointing out the flaws of others. Yet, Jesus says
until we deal with our own issues we are unable to see clearly to help others with theirs. By first
focusing on our own issues and getting healed, we develop an attitude of mercy and compassion.
Healthy trees produce good fruit and when our hearts are filled with good, our attitudes and actions
reflect that reality. What we store up in our hearts determines what will come out of our mouths: “…for
his mouth speaks from that which fills the heart.” (45c). Are we judgmental or are we compassionate?
