Luke 21:20-28
While other accounts of this message seem focused on the return of Christ, Luke zeros in on
Jerusalem’s destruction. Those in or near the city should flee, while those in country must stay
separated, “…because these are the days of vengeance,…” (22a). The judgment on Jerusalem is a
preview of Christ's return and God's ultimate judgment on the whole world! “But when these things
begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your head, because your redemption is drawing near.” (28)
What the world fears and dreads, the church looks forward to with joy. We are not focused on troubling
signs revealing judgment, but we are focused to receive redemption. We do not look around in fear, but
we look up in faith!
