Luke 23:26-32
Jesus journey to crucifixion was so horrific that women following Him were “…mourning and lamenting
Him.” (27b). Yet, Jesus’ perspective was different. “…’Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me,
but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming…’” (28b-29a) Jesus
looked beyond what was happening to Him to the consequences of the Jews rejection of the Him in the
future. They were understandably struck with grief at this scene, but unaware of a greater horror to
come upon the people for their rejection of Christ. Sometimes, we are overcome with fear and grief
over suffering and great loss, but fail to see the greater consequences lying beyond death for ignoring
and rejecting Christ. May God give us the wisdom to see beyond our present trials being conscious of
the judgment to come.
