Multiplied Benefits from Our Victories

1 Chronicles 18:1-11
“Now after this it came about that David defeated the Philistines and subdued them and took Gath and its towns from the hand of the Philistines.” (1) After David humbly and prayerfully received God’s promises and directives, he was enabled to grow in victory expanding Israel’s territory and security. He also defeated the Moabites, king Hadadezer of Zobah, and crippled their military to the point they were no longer a threat. He killed 22,000 Arameans and put garrisons among them in Damascus to insure stability and tribute to fortify the purposes of God in Jerusalem [their worship center] and strengthen his legacy benefiting his son Solomon. All this was possible because “…the LORD helped David wherever he went.” (7c). Not only was David strengthened by these victories, but Tou king of Hamath was blessed for Hadadezer of Zobah had oppressed them also. Consequently, he sent gifts of gold, silver and bronze which David dedicated to the LORD from him and from other nations as well. When we honor God’s word in humility and prayer with thanksgiving, we rise in power over enemies not only for our benefit, but for the benefit of others as well. These victories and the booty from them, not only benefit us, but our church family and generations to come!
