Luke 19:28-44
Jesus led His disciples into Jerusalem accompanied by crowd with three kinds of people. He sent
disciples to get an unbroken donkey to carry Him. He gave specific directions regarding location and to
deal with the owners objections. His disciples put their clothes on the donkey and spread them before
the donkey [costly worship expression]. When the crowd praised God loudly for all the miracles
acknowledging Jesus as king, “Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke
your disciples!’” (39). First, we see those who facilitated the procession. Next, we see the crowd
participating in worship. The third group was religious people objecting to the worship. Jesus did not get
angry with this group, but wept over all who rejected Him knowing their rejection had negative present
and future consequences: In their present, they would miss what brings peace. In their future, they and
their children would be utterly destroyed.
