Luke 17:1-4
As Jesus nears the end of His earthly ministry, He warns His disciples about being stumbling blocks.
He basically says the person causing the vulnerable [little ones] to stumble, would be better off dead.
This is not a warning to heathens, but to disciples. “Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him;
and if he repents, forgive him.” (3) We become a stumbling block to brothers in two ways. First, by
neglecting our responsibility to address our brothers’ sin and call them to repentance. Second, we must
forgive them when they ask. Both failing to reprove others, and failing to forgive them, makes us
stumbling blocks reflecting a lack of genuine love and care for others in the church. Let us seek God
for grace to be our brothers’ keeper.
