Luke 4:22-30
When Jesus declared Isaiah’s prophecy fulfilled, the people were awed knowing Him as Joseph’s son.
What they thought they knew blinded them to the Truth. At first, Jesus was received with joy: “And all
were speaking well of Him,…” (22a). Yet, Jesus was not elated at their excitement knowing their
eventual rejection. His emotions did not go up and down with a crowd’s enthusiastic acceptance or
rejection. He declared, from Scripture, how God did great miracles “outside” Israel. Their enthusiasm
quickly turned to fury: “And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage…” (28a). Then they
tried to kill Him. “But passing through their midst, He went His way.” (30) At times we need to stand our
ground not yielding to the crowd, but pass through them to do God’s will.
