Luke 9:1-6
“And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal
diseases.” (1) It is interesting that Jesus “gave” them power and authority as an equipping for healing.
He did not conduct a class on healing, but equipped them with both the ability [power] and the right
[authority]. Could it be we need less instruction on healing and more equipping that comes from being
in His presence when He calls us? Could it be we are going out with mere information without
impartation? Healing and proclamation of God’s kingdom are both essential. It is also interesting, Jesus
did not give them a fund raising method, but told them not to take anything but bare essentials and to
be content where they were. And finally, He equipped them for rejection. Response to our message
does not define our success, but obedience to Christ’s directives does! Let us be abide in Jesus’
presence and honor all His directives.
