Luke 18:18-23
“A ruler questioned Him [Jesus], saying, ‘Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” (18)
Jesus challenged his understanding of good and listed the commandments pertaining to human
relationships. The young ruler had adhered to these since he was a boy. Jesus said, “One thing you still
LACK; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and
come, follow Me.’” (22) This young ruler lacked an unhindered love for God being attached and
dependent on his wealth. When we are challenged to give up material things, lack of love for God may
be exposed. May God give us the wisdom and grace to release material wealth so we will not suffer
spiritual lack. Dependence and attachment on wealth leads us into a great lack!
