2 Samuel 7:18-29 “Before God in Prayer”
“Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD, and he said, ‘Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?” (18) When David had put forward his idea to build God a house he not looking for God’s directives. However, as he sat in God’s presence in prayer he was humbles, amazed and grateful for God’s favor on His life and what He was doing for and through His people. Then His direction completely changed as he relied completely on what God said. “Again what more can David say to You? For You know Your servant, O Lord GOD!” (20) David’s prayer adds an amen to all God said and is no longer motivated by pride or self interest. He now focuses on: “…that Your name may be magnified forever,…” (26a). For David to maintain a proper attitude before God, he needed to set before Him in prayer expressing praise for His accomplishments and agreement with His directives.
