1 Samuel 21:1-9
When fleeing from Saul, David often struggled with fear. When he came to Ahimelech the priest in Nob, he contrived a story saying he was on an urgent and secret mission for the king. Then he fabricated another story to cover for his lack of provision and weapons. So Ahimelech gave David and his men the consecrated bread. In this context we read, “Now one of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg the Edomite,…” (7a, b). David also took the sword of Goliath whom he had killed. As David continued fleeing, he was now equipped with both provision and protection. However, the strategy of deception rooted in fear would lead to disaster in the future. Strategies formed in fear lead to a deception leading to disaster, not only to ourselves, but to those we genuinely care about. May God give us the grace in our growing times to operate in faith and not fear.
