Fear v. Faith

1 Samuel 26:1-25
Why would the men of Ziph tell Saul of David’s location knowing what he had done for Israel. The answer is simple. They feared Saul knowing what he did to the priests when they aided David. Saul pursued David with 3,000 “chosen” men camping before the wilderness where David was staying. David sent spies and confirmed his coming. He then came to the place while Saul was sleeping with his people around him. David, without revealing his intentions, asked who would go with him and Abishai volunteered. Upon arrival, Saul was sleeping with his spear stuck in the ground by his head. Abishai’s said, “…’Today God has delivered your enemy into your hand;…’”(8b). He then offered to kill him, but David’s perception was different: “…’Do not destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against the LORD’S anointed and be without guilt?’” (9b). David put vengeance in God’s hands but took his spear and water to appeal to Saul regarding his innocence. While the men of Ziph and the men around were moving in fear, David persisted in faith knowing who God was and that He would deal with this matter for his good. Fear is a horrible motivator, but faith keeps us secure in God!
